Who doesn’t decorate with Candy Canes? Or enjoy them while decorating? There has to be a candy dish nearby filled with different styles and colors of canes.
Did you know that the idea originated in Germany about 250 years ago? But instead of the favored red stripes, we all know and love, these delicious sticks started out as a white stick of sugar. It is said that somewhere around 1900 this candy began showing true colors of red and green. Then around 1920, a man by the name of Bob McCormack, from Georgia, started making canes for his friends and family. Becoming more and more popular he started a little business and called it Bob’s Candies. His brother-in-law, Gregory Harding Keller, who was a Catholic priest, invented the ‘Keller Machine’ that made turning straight candy sticks into curved candy canes automatically! Later on around 2005, Bob’s Candies was bought by Farley and Sathers who still make the candy canes to this very day!
